Union Gospel Mission

Program Description:
Union Gospel Mission is a local united Christian organization dedicated to providing love, hope, respect, and a new beginning for the homeless. Provides temporary shelter, beds, meals, showers, clothing for men, women and children. Resident staff positions available for those willing to voluntarily perform staff duties; longer term residence available for retirees.

Eligibility:
Anyone in need of our services is welcome, with certain restrictions: Possession or use of alcohol or illegal drugs is strictly prohibited; positive identification must be presented upon admission; violent or abusive physical or verbal behavior is not acceptable; and weapons of any kind are strictly prohibited. All clients must demonstrate sobriety/rationality to satisfy staff on duty, and must submit to search upon admission. Children must be accompanied and cared for by one of their parents at all times.
 

Intake:

Men's transient dormitory: 7:00-9:00pm; Those desiring to rent private rooms: 8:00am-5:00pm Monday-Friday. Women and children: 8:00am-Midnight Monday thru Thursday; 8:00am-7:00pm Friday & Saturday; 3:00pm-Midnight Sunday

 

Fees:

For the indigent: Three free nights per year per person as necessary; $5.00 per night thereafter in back dorm area. $6 per day, $42 per week for back dorm resident status. Those who rent rooms by the week or month will pay at a rate of $52.50 per week.

 

Other specific services include:

o       Private Rooms - May be rented weekly or monthly upon availability

o       Temporary Housing - For male transients: 7:00pm - 9:00pm daily; 24-hour shelter during severe weather. For staff, residents, women and children: 24-hour shelter daily.

o       Meals - For male transients: Lunch (noon) and dinner (4:45pm) Monday thru Sunday. For staff, residents, women and children: Breakfast, lunch and dinner daily.

o       Employment Opportunities - Possible temporary employment at the mission.

o       Educational Opportunities - Referrals for General Education Diploma (GED) classes and referrals to the Texas Workforce Commission.

o       Chapel Program - Interdenominational devotionals and chapel services are held daily. Christian guidance/counseling is available daily.

o       Transportation - Bus tokens provided for those needing to go to appointments and jobs.
