PAL (Preparation for Adult Living)

Life Skills- real time; real fun!

At Preparation for Adult Living (PAL) life skills classes, youth develop self-confidence and learn skill for self-sufficiency.

PAL teens have told us they really liked their

PAL facilitators...

"He was like an older brother to me"

"She was there when I needed her to be."

"He was a great role model for me."

TRAC contracts with CPS to provide Preparation for Adult Living training for foster youth living in the 19 counties that make up Region 3. The TRAC staff facilitates a fun and experiential experience to engage youth and give them real-life simulations to prepare for the challenges they'll face in their transition to independent living. PAL life-skills training is a natural beginning to TRAC's transition planning services. PAL classes are on Saturdays or Tuesday and Thursday evenings over six weeks.  During school breaks, PAL can be completed in five consecutive days.  PAL classes start every month and are offered in various locations across North Texas.  Check our calendar for a class near you!  Advance registration is required, please contact Tameka Caldwell to reserve your place.

"Without PAL, I would go out into the real world with no knowledge."

PAL services are offered to all youth 16 and older who are in foster care to assist them preparing for adult living.  Foster teens have an initial assessment of their knowledge of adult living skills and their ability to develop these skills.

"PAL training was a positive experience because I learned so many new things and met new people through the program."

Through PAL, foster teens have opportunities to participate in specific group or individual training sessions featuring guest speakers, field trips, and discussion on topics such as:

  • job readiness

  • financial management

  • housing and transportation

  • personal and interpersonal relationships

  • health and safety

  • life decisions and responsibilities

"The PAL instructors helped me better myself as a person, and they helped me prepare for the real world. I will manage my money and not end up on the streets."
